Please join dancer, choreographer and dance historian Ron Parker as he continues with Part II of “The History of Black Dance in America”.  This is the little-known history of the most popularly danced American social dances that were created or inspired by the descendants of enslaved Africans.  This second part focuses on dances that were created or became popular in the latter half of the 20th Century, dances like Bop, Mambo, Tango, Salsa , Hip Hop as well as many popular fad dances of the 1960s through the 1980s.  We also delve into the histories of the popular Afro-centric dances that emerged from this period such as Urban Cha-Cha, Urban Ballroom, Chicago Style Step and Kizomba.  If you attended Part I of our program, you already know that this production promises to be both entertaining as well as educational.  Remember: The history of Black dance is, quite simply, the history of American popular dance.
